Garden Ornament Repair
I have been a fan of garden ornaments for a long time and I have a collection in my garden. In this line of work, home moving, I regularly come across clients for whom pieces hold sentimental value, some are old and have been passed down the generations.
Garden ornaments are constructed from a variety of different materials, however, I am only able to offer to repair garden ornaments made from concrete, or cast stone. If you have bronzes, or solid stone sculptures in need of repair, I would recommend contacting a specialist in those fields.
Due to the curing times of the repair materials, I am unable to offer this as a sameday service and it is a service best performed under workshop conditions. Once the repair materials dry, I still need to sand away any excess material to conceal the joins and if it is painted, I need to colour match the paint.
What this service is able to offer is long lasting structural and cosmetic repairs to your concrete statuary.
Structurally I am able to reatach parts which have snapped off partially, or completely by pinning the broken parts in place using metal rods.
Cosmetically I am able to shape and redifine the features of a statue to conceal where the pieces are joined and to repaint scuffs and scratches.
No repair is ever going to be "Invisible" especially if you know where to look for the repair area, but I aim for as near to indistinguishable as possible. In order to get the best results, it helps if you still have the pieces which fell off. If a small part has come loose and has gone missing like the tip of an ear or a toe, that's okay because I have a foundation to build off and I can reshape those pieces.
If for example a whole wing is missing from an angel, or from an eagle statue and is nowhere to be found, it is still repairable, but it increases the complexity of the repair. In order to replace the missing part I would have to sculpt a whole new matching wing using self drying clay, create a silicone mould of the new wing, cast a new wing using fresh concrete and then reattach it to the original statue using metal rods and repair material.
The majority of concrete garden ornaments do not like being lifted by their heads and once repaired an ornament will always have to be moved with more care and attention than other ornaments.
